KPV - Anti-Inflammatory Tripeptide (α-MSH Fragment)

KPV (Lys-Pro-Val) is a C-terminal tripeptide fragment derived from alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Despite being only three amino acids in length, KPV retains the potent anti-inflammatory activity of its parent molecule while being small enough to resist enzymatic degradation and penetrate tissues efficiently. This makes KPV one of the most targeted anti-inflammatory peptides available for research.

Mechanism of Action

KPV exerts anti-inflammatory effects through multiple mechanisms: it inhibits NF-κB nuclear translocation by preventing IκB-α phosphorylation, reduces pro-inflammatory cytokine production (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α), and modulates inflammatory cell migration. KPV also interacts with melanocortin receptors, though its anti-inflammatory activity appears partially independent of classical MC receptor binding. Research has demonstrated its ability to cross intestinal epithelial barriers, making it valuable for mucosal inflammation studies.

Research Applications

  • NF-κB pathway inhibition and inflammatory signaling
  • Mucosal healing and intestinal barrier function
  • Cytokine modulation (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α reduction)
  • Inflammatory bowel disease pathway research
  • Inflammatory pathway research
  • Comparative studies with full-length α-MSH
